Meet Dr. Rebecca Kesman, Internal Medicine

With her interest in the sciences and a strong desire to help others when she was growing up, it’s not surprising that Dr. Rebecca Kesman eventually chose to go to medical school and begin a career as a physician.

Dr. Kesman is an internist, a primary care doctor who cares for the needs of adult patients. “One reason I like internal medicine so much is that I really enjoy all aspects of providing care, whether taking care of men, women or geriatric patients,” she explains. “As an internist, you never know what you are going to see. It’s always different every day, that’s what makes it fascinating.”

One of the things that Dr. Kesman enjoys most about being a primary care physician is building long-term relationships with her patients and learning what is going on in their lives. “I think the more you know about a patient, the better you are able to care for them. That’s why getting to know my patients has always been important to me.”

For Dr. Kesman, determining a diagnosis is one of the reasons she likes medicine so much. “When something is wrong with somebody, I really like to understand the puzzle. To me, that’s really interesting. I like to take a history from a patient and figure out what’s really going on. For me, the critical thinking aspect of medicine is always fascinating.”

As a physician in Auburn, Dr. Kesman benefits from a highly experienced staff of internal medicine providers. “I really like working with my colleagues here, they have been a great reference for advice and information, both the physicians and the nursing staff. I think our staff is a big reason our patients enjoy their care here so much – they really make a difference.”

In her free time Dr. Kesman enjoys outdoor activities such as boating and hiking. She and her husband Thomas (who is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Reliant) also enjoy dining out, traveling, taking photographs and spending as much time as possible with their young son.
